Beveren

As part of a thorough renovation of the Beverentunnel, efforts were made, among other things, to sustainable concrete repair and watertight protection of various underground structures. The works are part of a wider infrastructure renovation that involves tackling both the main tunnel and the technical areas, such as pumping stations and service corridors.

Waterproofing pump wells with Penetron technology

A crucial part of this project involved the renovation and protection of the pump well locations, where permanent exposure to water and aggressive conditions is a challenge. For these zones — covering a treated area of approximately 2,600 m² — the Penetron system was chosen, thanks to its proven effectiveness in underground and water-sensitive applications such as tunnels, shafts and technical areas.

Activities carried out

  • Mechanical cleaning and roughening of concrete surfaces.
  • Local concrete repairs where necessary, including seams and structural damage.
  • Applying Penetron Slurry:
    • 2 layers on all vertical walls.
    • 2 layers on the ceilings of the pump wells.

This approach provides in-depth crystalline waterproofing, where the active components of the product penetrate the concrete and spread through the capillary pores. The result is sustainable protection against water infiltration and an extension of the life of the concrete.

Products used

  • Penetron Slurry: A crystalline waterproofing system that, due to its penetrating effect, is particularly suitable for permanent water pressure and underground applications.

Workmanship on site

The execution of the works was entrusted to Concrete-X, a partner with extensive experience in waterproofing applications and concrete renovation.
